The cost of

with Building Regulations Part L To create an EPC (Energy
Performance Certificate)
SAP or Standard Assessment Procedure calculations are an approved
mode of assessment for the energy efficiency of new homes. Set up by the
Government, those that complete assessments must be registered and accredited
by an official body.
A number between 1 and 100 will be given and this shows the
estimated energy costs. Each calculation bases the results on the overall construction,
internal lighting, heating system, and any installed renewable technologies. One
thing excluded is the use of appliances, including cooking equipment.
What is the Code for Sustainable Homes? Originally launched in 2007, the Code for Sustainable Homes is
an approach for the assessment and certification of a sustainable property design
and construction. The main aim is to tackle rising carbon emissions in the UK
by creating homes with a greater energy efficiency. BRE Global manage the implementation
of the code and it is now part of the standard process when it comes to new
builds.
This new code replaced prior EcoHomes assessments and
certifications that were present. The key nine categories assessed for sustainability
include:
Water Energy and Carbon
Dioxide Emissions Pollution Materials Health and
Wellbeing Surface Water
Run-Off Ecology Management Waste
After the assessment, a development will be given a score of
between 1 and 6 stars. These depend on the overall performance and are divided
into:
Level 1 * 36 Points
Level 2 ** 48 Points
Level 3 *** 57 Points
Level 4 **** 68 Points
Level 5 ***** 84 Points
Level 6 ****** 90 Points
Our experienced assessors and consultants can work with
developers to ensure that all properties designed and built are in accordance
with the code. We will take the time to provide any advice necessary, either by
telephone or email.
